Jogja City Government Presentation was a Official GEA Presentation workshop run in Indonesia. The workshop involved 600 and was run by GEA trainer(s) Ani and Russell
Training Summary
The GEA was invited to speak to a gathering of 650 participants of the Jogja City Government waste and environmental programs about their ecobricking.
Training Agenda
The first day, we were invited up on the stage to talk about the history of ecobricking in Jogja on behalf of the Global Ecobricking Alliance. Every participant was asked to complete and bring an ecobrick to the event. We had twenty minutes to present in the morning and afterwards spent quality time catching up with the many GEA trainers who began eight years ago with us in Jogja's first Training of Trainers.
The next day, we did a special presentation and workshop to 35 of the city's ecobrick representatives: non-GEA trainers who have been going around the city advocating ecobricking. We got to talk to them about our core principles of leading by example and plastic transition.
Then Ani led them through of Plastic, the Biosphere and Ecobricks presentation. Afterwards, everyone made an ecobrick and received Ani's feedback and critique.
Success Story
The week of presentations and meetings was a great success. In particular, we had the chance to meet the city government environmental department leaders. They are frustrated at the lack of solutions in the city for plastic and had been cut off by political shuffling from our program eight years ago. With our renewed government connections we were able to correct some significant misunderstandings and lay the ground work for future collaboration.
Challenges
We had not worked with the Jogja City government for several years. It was a challenge to re-establish a connection with the new DLH director and her staff.

Good Use
Building with ecobricks puts plastic to good use in the short-term, while securing it out of both the biosphere and industry for the long-term.
